Presentation
Founded in 1893, the National Archaeological Museum was conceived by its founder Leite Vasconcelos as a “Museum of the Portuguese Man”. It illustrates the evolution of how the national territory was populated from prehistoric times until the foundation of its nationality. With an entrance facing Praça do Império in the Jerónimos Monastery, the National Archaeological Museum is a benchmark museological institution not only due to its rich and valuable collection, but also because of its periodic exhibitions.
